Position Description:    

A postdoctoral position in fisheries economics is available in the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University to work on the project “Property Rights and the Value of Natural Capital.” The project will conduct a comparative analysis of rights-based management in fisheries using data from multiple countries with similar fisheries. The postdoctoral researcher, under the supervision of Martin D. Smith, will work primarily on econometric modeling of fisheries data. Postdoctoral researchers are also expected to work with the PI to develop new research projects.

Work takes place in Durham, NC 

The initial term of the appointment will be 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding.

QUALIFICATIONS:    Applicants should hold a PhD in economics, agricultural and resource economics, applied economics, or a similar field. Applicants should have completed a field in environmental and resource economics or in public economics. Applicants must have skills in applied econometrics. Programming experience in Stata or a similar statistical package is required. Familiarity with fisheries management is preferred. Programming experience in Matlab, Python, or R is also useful. 

PROJECTED START DATE:      The position is available immediately. For doctoral candidates completing degrees in spring of 2019, a start date in the summer of 2019 is expected.
