The Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University (Durham, NC) invites applications for a teaching-focused faculty member to teach in the First-Year Design program. This person will be a member of a teaching team that delivers and continuously improves a required, innovative, hands-on, first-year engineering design course. In the course, students work in teams to develop solutions and build prototypes to solve client-based problems across all fields of engineering. A successful candidate is expected to contribute knowledge in pedagogy, curriculum development, assessment, and design education. For this non-tenure-track position, rank and title will be determined based on the candidate’s experience.
We are seeking a creative, innovative educator with teaching experience in engineering education, or practical application of engineering design. Candidates with expertise in first-year engineering programs or design education are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in a field of engineering or a related discipline. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence or related activities that suggest strong potential for making a positive impact in the classroom; candidates with industry experience are also encouraged to apply.
We seek a faculty member who is committed to building a diverse and inclusive community that fosters excellence in teaching. Full consideration will be given to applications received by January 31, 2019, but applications will continue to be accepted until the position is filled. A start date of July 2019 is expected.
Applicants should submit a cover letter (email, address, and phone number must be included), a curriculum vitae, teaching statement (1-2 pages), and a list of the names, addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail contacts of five references. Applicants should also include a syllabus and weekly schedule of a proposed or previously taught undergraduate course. For questions, please contact Dr. Ann Saterbak at ann.saterbak@duke.edu.
