Open Research Faculty Position

Department of Engineering Education

The Department of Engineering Education (EED, https://eed.osu.edu/)  at The Ohio State University invites applications for a research faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Research Professor to start September 2019. We are seeking proven, innovative scholars in engineering education who will help build the graduate program within the Department of Engineering Education that was formed in November 2015. Successful candidates will be expected to:


  • Pioneer scholarly contributions to engineering education research,

  • Show that they can collaborate with both tenure-track and non-tenure-track faculty members from within the department and those in different engineering disciplines, as well as across the university,

  • Focus their efforts on engineering education scholarship and advising graduate students,

  • Independently seek and obtain external funding to support research activities,

  • Generate ongoing funding for a research program sufficient to support graduate students and other resources, and

  • Establish a record of high-quality publications

The EED was created in November 2015, and the doctoral program was approved in Spring 2018. We currently have 12-15 graduate students enrolled in the doctoral program as of Autumn 2018. The department’s mission includes advancing the engineering profession and enabling student success by 1) contributing to developing of world-class scholarship in engineering and/or computing education, 2) modeling and advocating scholarly, evidence-based teaching within the College of Engineering; 3) developing and delivering state-of-the-art, innovative, multidisciplinary courses and programs in first-year engineering, engineering technical communication, and multidisciplinary capstone design. The EED has a curriculum centered around first-year core courses, technical communication, multi-disciplinary capstone, and other specialized courses and programs.

Summary of Duties:

  • Establish a world- class funded research program

  • Disseminate research results in peer reviewed publications

  • Participate in various service areas including department and college committees

  • Represent EED to the general engineering education community

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree in an engineering discipline, engineering education, education, or equivalent field from an accredited institution of higher education, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Excellent record in conducting research in innovative and influential areas of engineering and/or computing education

  • Interest in and potential for excellence in advising graduate students

  • Strong potential to advance through the research faculty ranks

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities

  • Ability to collaborate with diverse teams of scholars across all faculty ranks in the department and within and outside the university to form new communities of engagement and scholarly research in engineering education

  • Interest in engaging actively with other engineering and/or computing departments and colleges across Ohio State

  • Connections and experience with industry partners
