The Social Science Research Institute at Duke University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate to join Dr. Anna Gassman-Pines’ research team in working with linked administrative data to examine the effects of social policies on child development and to serve as the coordinator for the Bass Connections in Education and Human Development (EHD) theme directed by Dr. Gassman-Pines. The Associate’s primary responsibilities will be to: (1) collaborate on research leading to peer-reviewed publications; (2) advise research team members about the accessibility and use of data relevant to the team’s efforts and manage all aspects of acquiring, analyzing, and archiving the team’s data resources; (3) facilitate the smooth operation of the team, its inclusion of both undergraduate and graduate students and its integration with other Duke programming and initiatives; and (4) serve as Bass Connections EHD Coordinator, leading administration of the Bass Connections EHD theme and connecting, facilitating, and shepherding EHD teams and theme activities. Bass Connections supports interdisciplinary research teams focused on tackling societal problems. Specific research projects this position may pursue could involve examining the expansion of universal pre-K in Durham County, means-tested housing or nutrition assistance at the local or state level, and/or interventions to improve outcomes for individuals involved in the criminal justice system. The Associate will be supervised by Dr. Gassman-Pines, WLF Bass Connections Associate Professor of Public Policy & Psychology and Neuroscience in the Sanford School of Public Policy and specific research and training plans will be developed in collaboration with Dr. Gassman-Pines. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in working with and analyzing large-scale data sets, and familiarity with data management and statistical software, and will hold a Ph.D in a social or behavioral science discipline. Experience working with administrative or large-scale secondary data is preferred. The Associate will be expected to participate in research leading to publication. Responsibility, initiative, good judgment, and the ability to work well on a team are required. This position is full-time and is eligible for benefits. Though there is some flexibility concerning start date, preference will generally be given to candidates available for a start date of August 1, 2019.
