The Department of Kinesiology in the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources at the University of Connecticut is regarded as one of the best in the country. The faculty includes recognized leaders in the fields of athletic training, physical therapy, exercise science, and exercise and sport nutrition. In addition, the productive research and advocacy programs within the Korey Stringer Institute and the Human Performance Laboratory are widely recognized and published worldwide.

The Department of Kinesiology is seeking applications for a faculty position at the rank of non-tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor in Residence to direct the Athletic Training Masters Level Program, provide a service function in alignment with the Athletic Training program, contribute to the scholarship mission of the department, and support teaching in the Athletic Training (AT) program. The Athletic Training Program’s didactic component is located at the Storrs Campus with potential clinical and research collaboration at the UConn Health Center, and other partners statewide.

The primary responsibilities of this position will be to teach in the AT program and serve as the Program Director of the AT program including leading program curriculum development and planning, student development and retention, and maintenance of the accreditation process for the program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Eligible for or currently licensed as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Connecticut
  • Hold an earned doctorate or terminal professional doctorate in an area relevant to the health sciences;
  • A record of scholarship and potential to contribute to the scholarship mission of the department
  • Record of or strong potential for service and outreach activities that advance a national reputation  
  • Contemporary expertise in the field of athletic training
  • Certification and good standing with the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer
  • Previous clinical practice as an athletic trainer
  • Previous full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the postsecondary level

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A record of participation in athletic training program administration and curricular development
  • Record of interprofessional collaboration in teaching/learning
  • Previous experience as Program Director or Clinical Education Coordinator of an athletic training program.
  • 5 years of experience of teaching within an athletic training program at the university level

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a ten-month non-tenure track appointment, with a preferred start date of August 23, 2019.  Position title and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
