Postdoctoral Associate in Local Political Economy at Duke University

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

A postdoctoral position in local political economy is available in the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University. The position is part of a funded interdisciplinary research, educational, and outreach initiative on investments in water infrastructure in the United States. The postdoctoral researcher, under the supervision of Associate Professor of Environmental Politics Megan Mullin, will work primarily on designing and carrying out research on political and bureaucratic decision making about public service delivery and public goods provision, both within the water sector and more broadly. The postdoctoral researcher also will work with the PI to develop new research projects. The position involves some project management oversight but does not include any formal teaching duties.

WORK LOCATION: Work takes place in Durham, NC

TERM: 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should hold a PhD in political science, public policy, public administration, applied economics or a related field, obtained prior to start date. Applicants must have strong quantitative methodological skills. Experience with elite surveys and/or experiments is preferred. Familiarity with the political organization of U.S. local governance is preferred but not required. Position does not require expertise in water infrastructure.

PROJECTED START DATE: The position is available immediately. Start date is flexible for doctoral candidates completing degrees in summer of 2019.
