The Rheumatology Division at the University of Massachusetts Medical School invites applications for a non-tenure track Research Faculty Instructor position. The research involves pathogenic mechanisms in inflammatory rheumatic diseases, with an emphasis on the role of innate immunity and effects on bone. Projects focus on novel innate immune mechanisms that contribute to the development and chronicity of rheumatic diseases. Excellent collaborative research environment including multiple core facilities. The research will also involve the study of innate immune receptors and pathways and epigenetic mechanisms using well-validated animal models, human tissues, and in vitro systems.

Candidates must have a PhD in the biomedical sciences or an MD with post graduate scientific research training and at least 5 years of research experience. A strong background in molecular biology and immunology is required along with knowledge of data analysis and interpretation, and routine statistical analyses. Experience with animal models, osteoclasts and/or osteoblasts is also sought. Ability to work independently, coordinate and manage different research projects concurrently, as well as strong scientific writing, verbal, interpersonal and mentoring skills are essential. Candidates should be well organized, hard-working and highly motivated to respond to the changes within the rapidly evolving field.
