The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong. It offers programmes at various levels including Doctorate, Master’s, and Bachelor’s degrees. Professor in Structural Engineering (Ref. 19050610)

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering enjoys a high reputation in conducting application-oriented research and has well established connections with industry partners and government agencies in Hong Kong. It offers academic programmes at various levels. In addition to PhD and MSc programmes, the Department currently offers 3 undergraduate programmes, namely BEng(Hons) in Civil Engineering, BEng(Hons) in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Development and BSc(Hons) in Environmental and Occupational Safety and Health, with a new BEng(Hons) in Sustainable Structural and Fire Engineering programme to be launched in 2019/20. The Department currently has about 44 faculty members and 38 technical and administrative personnel, and is committed to international standards of excellence in teaching and research. The appointee will be required to (a) initiate, lead and participate in research activities in the area of FRP structures; (b) teach relevant undergraduate and postgraduate subjects, such as Applied Structural Analysis, Structural Analysis, Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis of Structures, Design of Concrete Structures, Life Cycle Performance Management of Concrete Infrastructure and Engineers in Society; (c) supervise student projects and theses; and (d) undertake relevant administrative duties, including unit/programme leadership, curriculum development, programme validation, accreditation, etc.

Applicants should (a) have a PhD degree in Structural Engineering with a first degree in Civil Engineering; (b) have demonstrated research leadership in the area of FRP composites for construction; (c) have substantial years of relevant post-qualification experience and an excellent record of relevant academic and/or research achievement; (d) be able to conduct effective classroom teaching; and (e) have demonstrated excellent potential for developing a successful academic career. Preference will be given to those who have knowledge and research experience in the area related to “Sustainable Marine Infrastructure Enabled by the Innovative Use of Seawater Sea-Sand Concrete and Fibre-Reinforced Polymer Composites” or equivalent.
