Head, Access and Collection Services Goodson Law Library Duke Law School

The Goodson Law Library invites applications for the position of Head, Access and Collection Services. Reporting to the Associate Director for Public Services, this position is primarily responsible for oversight of staff and services related to circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan, stacks management, student management, and preservation.

Responsibilities:

• Collection Services: Manages the circulation service point, overseeing the work of three full-time staff members and up to two library school student interns; serves as main point of contact for circulation and interlibrary loan; coordinates stacks management projects, including collection assessments, shifting, and moving projects; coordinates in-house book repairs, digitization, and preservation activities.

• Research and Instruction: Teaches the research portion of first-year and/or LLM Legal Analysis, Research and Writing. May teach guest lectures and upper-level research courses as schedule permits. May provide research support at the Reference Desk and/or participate in the faculty liaison program.

• Library Systems Support: Administers ILS, ILLiad, Relais, and other software for the Collection Services Department; serves as the circulation contact for FOLIO development teams. • Assessment and Reporting: Compiles, summarizes, analyzes, and archives data and statistics for periodic library reports, assessment, and planning.

• Government Documents: Acts as Depository Coordinator for the Federal Depository Library Program, in which the library receives 9% of available materials; completes annual item selection; compiles Biennial Survey responses in cooperation with library administration; manages document collection maintenance.

Requirements: J.D. from ABA-accredited school or non-U.S. equivalent; at least 2 years’ experience in an academic library setting; master’s degree from an ALA-accredited institution or other advanced-level degree; strong service orientation; experience or familiarity working with integrated library systems, interlibrary loan platforms, and reporting tools. The library is part of the university ILS, which is scheduled to move to the FOLIO open source library services platform in 2020.

Preferred: Experience working in a law library; experience managing staff or student workers; experience with/interest in circulation, interlibrary loan, reference, and preservation; experience in developing projects and seeing them through to completion.

Salary and Benefits: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Duke University offers a very competitive benefits package. All Duke librarians are eligible for continuing appointment and promotion under Duke University’s ranking system for professional librarians. Research Librarians are non-tenure track members of the Law School faculty at the rank of Lecturing Fellow/Senior Lecturing Fellow. Employer will assist with relocation costs.
