Duke University American Grand Strategy Instructor

The Department of Political Science and the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University invites applications for a one-year instructor in political science in the field of American Grand Strategy to begin in July or August 2020. This is a one-year sabbatical replacement, with no guarantee of a second year. The instructor would be required to teach a 2-2 load, with 2 courses originating in the Political Science Department and 2 courses originating in the Sanford School of Public Policy. The instructor would also be required to actively contribute to the life of Duke’s Program in American Grand Strategy, to include: helping recruit and host visiting speakers, helping lead field trips (including a staff ride of the Gettysburg battlefield), and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. We are seeking candidates with expertise in American foreign policy, American civil-military relations, and American grand strategy. Demonstrated aptitude in teaching is required. Demonstrated aptitude in both the academic and the policy world is highly desired. Successful candidates will be expected to have completed the Ph.D. no later than July 1, 2020.
