Position Description: |
There is a postdoctoral opening in the groups of Prof. Tamas Hausel and Prof. Mikhail Lemeshko at the Institute of Science and Technology (IST) Austria. The Hausel group works on geometry, topology, and arithmetic of moduli spaces arising in supersymmetric quantum field theories, representation theory of quivers, finite groups, Lie and Hecke algebras. The Lemeshko group works at the interface of theoretical condensed-matter, chemical, and AMO physics. In a recent collaborative work [1], we have presented an approach to interacting quantum many-body systems based on the notion of quantum groups, also known as q-deformed Lie algebras. In particular, we have shown that if the symmetry of a free quantum particle corresponds to a Lie group G, in the presence of a many-body environment this particle can be described by a deformed group, G_q. Crucially, the single deformation parameter, q, contains all the information about the many-particle interactions in the system. Preprint: arXiv:1809.00222 Our objectives are to:
We are looking for strongly motivated candidates experienced in quantum groups, representations, and mathematical physics and having basic knowledge of quantum mechanics, and quantum many-body systems. The postdoc must have a two-fold background necessary to efficiently communicate with both mathematicians and physicists working in the Hausel and Lemeshko groups. Expertise in designing numerical experiments would be an advantage. The position is offered for 1 + 2 years, with a starting date on or before January 1, 2020. Highly qualified applicants are also encouraged to apply for the ISTplus fellowship. Please provide your CV with a publications list, a cover letter, and a minimum of 3 letters of recommendation. PLEASE SEND YOUR DOCUMENTS DIRECTLY TO PROF. MIKHAIL LEMESHKO (mikhail.lemeshko@ist.ac.at) AND/OR TO DR. ENDERALP YAKABOYLU (enderalp.yakaboylu@ist.ac.at). You can provide a list of references that can be asked for a letter of recommendation, instead of arranging for the actual letters to be sent. Also, do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
