Sanford School of Public Policy

The Children’s Health and Discovery Initiative (CHDI) and the Center for Child and Family Policy invite applications for a Postdoctoral Associate to join an interdisciplinary research team in working with linked administrative and health records data to understand the healthcare and social services touchpoints of children and families with allegations of child maltreatment. The Associate’s primary responsibilities will be to: (1) collaborate on research leading to peer-reviewed publications; (2) oversee data management, cleaning and analysis; (3) facilitate the smooth operation of the team through collaborations with other team members and through integration with related Duke programming and initiatives; and (4) collaborate on external grant proposals.

The Associate will be supervised by Dr. Beth Gifford, Assistant Research Professor in the Sanford School of Public Policy and Social and Economic Research Leader for the Children’s Health and Discovery Initiate, which is housed in the Department of Pediatrics in the Duke School of Medicine. Specific research and training plans will be developed in collaboration with Dr. Gifford and the other faculty members on the team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in working with and analyzing large-scale data sets, and familiarity with data management and statistical software, and will hold a Ph.D in a social or behavioral science discipline. Experience working with administrative or large-scale secondary data is strongly preferred. Further, preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated interest in child welfare services and/or child and family health outcomes. The Associate will be expected to participate in research leading to publication. Responsibility, initiative, good judgment, and the ability to work well on a team are required.
