Position Description:

Postdoctoral Fellows, Nuclear/Astro/Lattice QCD Theory Physics Department, UC Berkeley and Nuclear Science Division, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

The Nuclear Theory Group at UC Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory anticipates having postdoctoral fellow positions available starting in the fall of 2020. Group interests include tests of fundamental symmetries using atoms and nuclei; neutrino physics and astrophysics; the modeling of supernovae and neutron star mergers as well as associated nucleosynthesis and observables; lattice QCD applied to nucleon and nuclear properties; the parton and gluon structure of nuclei and the EIC; high-energy heavy-ion collisions; QCD matter at high temperatures and densities; jet physics; and many-body physics. Candidates with research interests in any of these areas are encouraged to apply.

Successful candidates must have a recent Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics or Astrophysics and the ability to work productively within a diverse research environment, producing and publishing original research, and presenting research results effectively in the community’s scientific meetings.

Interested candidates are requested to submit their applications via Academic Jobs Online as soon as possible, but before the deadline of December 6, 2019, in order to receive full consideration. Each applicant should provide a CV and a statement of research interests, and request three letters of reference. Applications will be reviewed as they are received. Women and members of under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. Questions can be directed to Dan Kasen, kasen@berkeley.edu.

Senior members of the Berkeley/LBNL group include Wick Haxton, Dan Kasen, Volker Koch, Jorgen Randrup, Andre Walker-Loud, Xin-Nian Wang, and Feng Yuan. The LBNL/Berkeley research environment is a vibrant one with strong and diverse postdoctoral, student, and visitor programs.
