The Department of Physics at the University of Alberta invites applications to fill a postdoctoral position in condensed matter theory, with a starting date in the Fall of 2021. The successful applicant will work in collaboration with Prof. Joseph Maciejko ( and Prof. Igor Boettcher ( The position is a full-time 1-year appointment, renewable for up to 2 more years (maximum total of 3 years) subject to performance and mutual agreement. The salary for the position is $50,000 CAD per year plus supplemental health benefits. Research topics include topological phases of matter, strongly correlated electrons, and quantum criticality.

The applicant must have a Ph.D. in theoretical condensed matter physics obtained within the last five (5) years, a strong background in quantum many-body physics, and previous research experience in theoretical condensed matter physics (analytical and/or computational).
