The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is seeking adjunct faculty (at the Assistant or Associate level) who will teach a CEE 422L, Concrete and Composite Structures, an introductory course on the design of reinforced concrete that includes: 1) extension of mechanics of materials, 2) design methods, 3) design for internal bending, 4) design for internal shear, 5) development length, 6) shallow foundations, 7) design of columns (P only, and P-M interaction). This course includes a project where students develop a spreadsheet that can be used to design a square spread footing.

Work Performed:This adjunct faculty position is comprised of one course per semester for the duration of the appointment. The initial appointment will be for the Spring 2021 semester only and may be renewable depending on need. Graduate and undergraduate student mentorship and advisement is expected within the context of this course for projects aligned with the core mission of the department.

This course is a 1-unit, undergraduate level class with at least 10 students. Students will be engaged in a synchronous online format for lectures, where all the materials can be accessed through recording. The adjunct professor is expected to prepare an extended syllabus, keep weekly office hours for student mentorship, and develop a course that prepares students for a capstone design experience. Course materials will be made available, if desired, and the materials that are developed and used are to be maintained and provided to the department for internal assessment and review.

The course has a laboratory component. A lab manager will execute the lab in coordination with the instructor.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training: A PhD, or commensurate industry experience, in Civil Engineering or closely-related field (in hand) is required.

Experience:The successful applicant will have extensive experience in structural engineering, in general, and reinforced concrete design, in particular.
