|Position Description:|| |
|The Department of Political Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for a tenured Associate or Full Professor in the department’s Legal Studies program to start September 1, 2013. Legal Studies at UMass is the oldest undergraduate liberal arts program for the study of law and legal systems in the country and the only one in New England at a public university. The program is housed in the Department of Political Science but runs its own undergraduate major, graduating over 200 students a year. Legal Studies faculty also teach graduate level seminars in Political Science and work with PhD students across the university who have an interest in law and society.
We are seeking a scholar with a Ph.D. in political science whose work in law and society is ambitious and interdisciplinary, transcending traditional geographical, methodological, and substantive boundaries. The successful candidate should have a proven record of success in scholarly research and extramural grant activity. He or she will be strongly committed to collaborating with existing faculty in leading the program in new directions while preserving and developing its interdisciplinary mission, one that aims to bring together legal studies scholars with training in a variety of fields in the social sciences and humanities. Leadership of the program will involve developing and implementing new research and teaching initiatives and generating greater collaboration with socio-legal scholars across campus and within the Department. This search continues the department’s efforts to add to the strength of its diverse and growing faculty. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Review of applications will begin on October 1, 2012 and continue until the position is filled. The department strongly prefers that applicants submit their cover letter, curriculum vitae, and writing samples in electronic form through the Academic Jobs Online website at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/1761 and arrange for electronic transmission of three letters of recommendation to the same site. If necessary, printed materials may be sent to Stephen Marvell, Political Science, 322 Thompson, UMass Amherst, 200 Hicks Way, Amherst, MA 01003-9277.
