Occupational summary: Duke University Divinity School seeks a Postdoctoral Associate, effective July 1, 2021, for a two-year appointment. The Postdoctoral Associate will be expected to teach at least three courses total and provide administrative support and leadership to and support the Divinity School’s Latinx and Latin American programs.

Work Performed: Lead the launch of a Spanish/English online journal in Latinx theology. Work collaboratively with Latinx faculty and staff at Duke Divinity in the design and development of the magazine. In this role, the postdoctoral associate will offer vision for the final product and each stage of the process; manage the editing, design, and production process; oversee marketing and communications efforts.

Support Duke Divinity School initiatives in Latin America. Work collaboratively with the director of the Hispanic House of Studies and the director of the Center for Reconciliation in the operation of The Americas Initiative for Transformation and Reconciliation (TAI). This includes developing strategies for preserving and communicating the lessons from TAI with the Duke Divinity community and beyond.

Support Hispanic House of Studies theological education initiatives. Work collaboratively with the Director of the Hispanic House of Studies and the associate dean for academic formation in strengthening the online offerings of the Hispanic Latino Pastoral Initiative (HLPI) and connecting these with DDS initiatives in Latin America, particularly in Central America and Peru.

Teach in DDS programs. The postdoctoral associate will be expected to teach a total of 3 courses in Duke Divinity School’s degree programs in the subject areas of Latinx and Latin American theology and ethics, particularly the ethics of migration. Qualifications and Experience Position requires a Th.D. or Ph.D. in Religion, Theology, or a closely related field and an MDiv or equivalent degree. Experience in teaching and writing theology in Spanish for Latinx and Latin American settings is highly desirable.

Departmental Preferences An academic doctorate (Ph.D., Th.D. or equivalent) in a relevant discipline. Fluency in Spanish and English, both written and oral. Prior experience in teaching theology in Latinx and Latin American contexts is strongly preferred. Significant experience as an editor or a background in communications.
