Occupational Summary 
This full-time position in the Duke University Sanford School of Public Policy, a top-10 public policy school will support a large-scale qualitative study of social service delivery in North Carolina. As an associate in research you will be responsible for managing data collection at local WIC offices and local departments of social services. In addition, you will be responsible for managing logistics including interview scheduling, preparing materials, and collecting data. The position is full time, but a part-time option (30 hours per week) may be available if desired. The specific aims of the broader study are to understand the barriers of accessing public assistance programs in counties across North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. The research analyst will act as a key collaborator with the principal investigator to support the research teams in developing, refining and conducting project activities. 

 Responsibilities include the following: 
  • Schedule Interviews 
  • Help manage data systems 
  • Train qualitative interviewers
  • Recruit interview subjects 
  • Conduct qualitative interviews and participant observations at study sites 
  • Prepare materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations 
  • Prepare materials for Duke Human Subject Committee Reviews
  • Maintain accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary 
  • Request or acquire equipment or supplies necessary for the project 
  • Manage and respond to project related email 
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate students working on the research project (maintaining records on assignment completion, acting as liaison/mediator between the undergraduate students and the faculty researcher) Organize and run project meetings 
  • Analyze Qualitative Data
  • Summarize project results 
  • Prepare progress reports for the PI and funding agency
  • Prepare other articles and presentations Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by individual researchers. 
Concerns about any additional responsibilities should be discussed first with the supervisor. 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING 
Work requires research, communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a Master’s degree program. 3 or more years of experience with applied research or project management is preferred.
