Postdoctoral Researchers in High-Performance Computation and Machine Learning, National Center for Theoretical Sciences, Taiwan

The High-Performance Computation and Machine Learning (HPC/ML) Thematic Group at the National Center for Theoretical Sciences (NCTS), Physics Division, Taiwan, invites applications for several postdoctoral researchers in numerical studies of strongly correlated systems in condensed matter physics and machine learning. Applicants interested in the following research areas: 1) tensor network methods, 2) classical and quantum Monte Carlo methods, 3) topology and entanglement, and 4) physics and machine learning, are particularly welcome.

NCTS is a government-supported initiative to foster research in theoretical sciences by bringing together experts across institutions in Taiwan. The NCTS headquarters is located at National Taiwan University. The current core members of the HPC/ML thematic group include Pochung Chen (NTHU), Ying-Jer Kao (NTU), Ming-Chiang Chung (NCHU), Yu-Cheng Lin (NCCU), Hong-Yi Chen (NTNU), Ching-Yu Huang (THU) and Yi-Ping Huang (NTHU). For further information, see the NCTS website.

The duration of appointment of NCTS postdoctoral researchers is normally for two years and are renewable for a third year, subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. The starting date can be as early as April 1, 2021 and is negotiable. The salary will be commensurate with the awardee’s research experience and is also negotiable. Moreover, moderate travel and research funds are available, and an economy class airfare will be supported for relocation. In addition, Taiwan provides excellent universal health insurance for local and foreign talents alike.

Applicants should have received or expect to complete a Ph.D. in physics, condensed matter physics, or any related field, by the start date. Applications should be made through the PD HPC/ML NCTS call on https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/18212. The required documents include: a cover letter addressed to the HPC/ML, a curriculum vitae, a summary of past and proposed research, and a publication list (including a Google Scholar link). The research statement (3) should not exceed 5 pages including figures and references. Applicants should also arrange for three reference letters to be sent through the same website. All application documents received by 15 April 2021, 11:59 pm (Taipei time, UT+8) will be given full consideration. Applications submitted after 15 April, 2021 will also be considered until the positions have been filled.

NCTS is committed to an inclusive and supportive working environment that values equality and diversity. We encourage applicants who consider their background, personal characteristics, or career path to be underrepresented in academia.
