Cornell Law School is seeking applications for the position of Clinical Teaching Fellow for a one-year appointment (renewal dependent on external funding) beginning in summer 2021. The fellow will work primarily with Professor Sandra Babcock and staff at the Cornell Center on the Death Penalty Worldwide. The Fellow will help teach and supervise clinic students on projects relating to the rights of women facing the death penalty around the world, self-determination in the Occupied Golan, the representation of persons on death row in the United States, and other human rights projects. The Fellow will be expected to equip clinic students with the skills and knowledge to draft pleadings and reports, develop and execute mitigation investigations and conduct legal and factual research. The Fellow will also be expected to develop syllabi and lesson plans for the Clinic’s weekly seminar. The Fellow will meet with student teams on a weekly basis, and will be expected to supervise student work and to ensure that teams meet their deadlines. The Clinic places a strong emphasis on helping students develop strong writing skills.

The Fellow will also be required to deeply engage in the field of gender rights, carceral feminism, and intersectional discrimination. International travel may be required, depending on the status of the global Covid-19 pandemic.

Ideal candidates will have at least two years of experience in the field of capital litigation, as well as experience in the field of international human rights. They should have an interest in teaching and in mentoring, with a client-centered approach to litigation. Excellent writing skills are essential. We hope to hire someone with initiative, an ability to work closely with people from varying backgrounds, emotional intelligence, and creativity. Candidates with strong foreign language skills (especially French) are encouraged to apply. A law degree (JD or foreign equivalent) plus US bar admission is required.

Salary: $65,000
