Position Description: |
Research Scientist - Theory of superconducting quantum circuits & circuit QED The group of Prof. Alexandre Blais at the Institut quantique of the Universite de Sherbrooke invites applications for research scientists in theoretical quantum information science and quantum optics. Areas of interest include superconducting quantum circuits, circuit QED, quantum error correction, microwave quantum optics, variational quantum algorithms, machine learning, and numerical methods for open quantum systems. Applicants should be highly motivated, have demonstrated the ability to perform independent research in one or more of the above-mentioned subjects, have excellent communication skills as evidenced by publications and talks, have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively, and be interested in playing a role in the training of junior group members. Subject to the availability of research funds, the positions could be for up to 5 years, with the possibility of extensions. The start date is flexible. About the Institut quantique and A. Blais' research group Located in Quebec, Canada, the Institut quantique (IQ) is a collaborative environment with nearly 200 students, postdocs and faculty members working in the fields of quantum information science, quantum engineering and quantum materials. A new IQ building with collaborative spaces will be ready in 2021. Earlier this year, IQ launched its IBM Q Hub – the first in Canada – which offers its members exclusive access to IBM most advanced quantum computing systems. Within IQ, members of Alexandre Blais’ group have the opportunity to collaborate with academic and industrial groups worldwide, and are part of the Quantum Science Accelerator recently funded by the US Department of Energy. More information on the Institut quantique and on Alexandre Blais’ group can be found here and here. To apply Please submit a cover letter, a short description of planned research and of past mentoring experience, and a CV including a list of publications. Applicants should also arrange to have three letters of references to be sent in support of their application. Applications will be considered until the positions are filled.
