The Goodson Law Library invites applications for the one year term position of Research and Instructional Librarian.  Research and Instructional Librarians at Duke work as a team of skilled and creative law-trained professionals who have primary responsibility to provide extensive reference and research services in a technologically advanced environment serving a sophisticated and research-oriented faculty and student body. This position is expected to be hybrid, with both virtual and in person work.

 Core Responsibilities: 

1.       Provide extensive reference and research services to Duke Law faculty, students, staff and the Duke University community; 

2.       Teach one section of first-year legal research in an integrated legal research and writing curriculum and one section in the US legal research instruction program for international LLMs;

3.       Provide instruction and consultation services for student research assistants, student journal editors, and guest lecture in upper level courses;

4.       Create and update research guides and other instructional and promotional materials in various formats;

5.       Participate in collection development.

Qualifications and Experience:

Required: Completion of Masters of Science in Library, Information, or related discipline and JD degree from an accredited institution.

Preferred: 1-3 years teaching experience, law practice experience, or law library reference experience.

The successful candidate will also have

- Knowledge and ability with legal research sources and techniques, and proficiency in using and learning databases and other research tools;

-Ability to work effectively and creatively with an active, research-oriented faculty in varied settings;

-Demonstrated interest or experience in teaching;

-Commitment to excellent service;

-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; 

-Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills;

-Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation;

-Self-initiative and ability to work in a collegial environment with high performance expectations;

-Willingness to work some evening and weekend hours.

Salary and Benefits: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Duke University offers a very competitive benefits package.  Law Librarians are non‑tenure track members of the Law School faculty at the rank of Lecturing Fellow.
