Position Description:    

The Computational Materials Research (CMR) Thematic Group at the National Center for Theoretical Sciences (NCTS), Physics Division, Taiwan, invites applications for one Postdoctoral researcher in all areas of theoretical and computational Condensed Matter Physics. Applicants interested in the following research areas: 1) Correlated materials, and 2) Methods beyond DFT 3) Excited states calculations, are particularly welcome.

NCTS is a government-supported initiative to foster research in theoretical sciences by bringing together experts across institutions in Taiwan. The NCTS headquarters, together with the CMR Thematic Group, is located at National Taiwan University. Current members include Yang-hao Chan (ASIAMS), Tay-Rong Chang (NCKU), Feng-Chuan Chuang (NSYSU), Guang-Yu Guo (NTU), Horng-Tay Jeng (NTHU), and Hsin Lin (ASIOP). The NCTS-CMR postdoctoral researcher will choose a topic from the list above, and will be assigned to work with one of the core members, who will act as the Mentor of the postdoctoral researcher. The researchers are also encouraged to collaborate with other CMR members.

The duration of appointment of NCTS postdoctoral researchers is normally for two years and are renewable for a third year, subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. The starting date can be as early as July 1, 2021 and is negotiable.

We provide a competitive monthly salary which is commensurate with the awardee’s research experience. For a fresh PhD graduate, the salary is around 2,350 USD per month and 13.5 months per annum. Further negotiation is also possible. Moderate travel and research funds are available to the NCTS-CMR postdoctoral researcher. An economy class airfare will be supported for relocation. In addition, Taiwan provides excellent universal health insurance for local and foreign talents alike. The computational resources from the Mentor’s institutes will be available to the researcher, and they will also have access to the National Center for High-performance Computing.

Applicants should have received or expect to complete a Ph.D. in physics, condensed matter physics, or any related field, by the start date. Applications should be made through the PD CMR NCTS call on The required documents include: 1) a cover letter addressed to the CMR, 2) a curriculum vitae, 3) a summary of past and proposed research, and 4) a publication list (including a Google Scholar link).

The research statement (3) should not exceed 5 pages including figures and references. Applicants should also arrange for three reference letters to be sent through the same website. All application documents received by 1 June 2021, 11:59 pm (Taipei time, UT+8) will be given full consideration. Applications submitted after 1 June, 2021 will also be considered until the positions have been filled.
