Position Description: |
The Chicana/o Latina/o Transnational Studies Field Group
at Pitzer College, in conjunction with the Intercollegiate Department of
Chicana/o Latina/o Studies at the Claremont Colleges, invites applications for
a full-time, two-year position, at the visiting assistant professor (non-tenure
track) level in any of the following: Chicana/o, Latina/o, Central American
Studies; Gender, Labor and Latinx Studies; Latina/o Literature and/or
visual culture for the 2021-2022 and 2022- 2023 academic years. The successful
candidate will teach five courses per year. A Ph.D. in Chicana/o-Latina/o
Studies, Ethnic Studies or another related interdisciplinary discipline is
preferred. We also welcome degrees from traditional disciplines in
the social sciences, but preference will be given to applicants with a strong
background in ethnic studies; ABD will be considered. The teaching load is five
courses for the year and could include classes such as “Gender, Race, and Class,” “Latina Activism, Work, and Protest” and
“Contemporary Issues of Latinas.” The candidate will be hired through
Pitzer College, and they will be affiliated with the Intercollegiate Department
of Chicana/o Latina/o Studies. Evidence
of teaching excellence is required. Advising of senior theses is likely. Preference will be given to applicants with a
commitment to the College’s core values of social
responsibility, intercultural understanding, interdisciplinary learning,
student engagement, and environmental
sustainability. The successful candidate will have
experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated
commitment to improving higher education for underrepresented students.

online by June 4, 2021: (1) letter of application, (2) two letters of recommendation, (3) CV, (4) teaching portfolio (including a 500-750 word pedagogical statement and evidence of teaching experience and excellence; submission of sample course descriptions is optional), and (5) 500-750 word diversity statement (e.g., How did you come to the field of Chicana/o Latina/a and/or Central American Studies? What is most urgently at stake in the field?).
