Desired Qualifications and Experience: Qualifying candidates will be graduates of well-regarded master’s programs in economics and related fields. Required: graduate level applied micro-econometrics skills, prior applied microeconomics research experience in labor and household economics or economic demography, fluency in all aspects of English and Russian languages, and reading and aural comprehension of Kazakh. Strong candidates will also possess: • Proficiency in programming with STATA, R, Python or Matlab; • Strong quantitative and statistical skills; • Significant coursework and experience in economics and statistics; • Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills; • Genuine interest in economics, policy, and research; • A positive attitude and be flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and a team player; • The ability to handle several different projects/tasks at one time, successfully complete tasks assigned, and meet deadlines; • A willingness and desire to work hard and learn.
Language Requirement: English (fluent), Russian (fluent), Kazakh (reading comprehension)
Responsibilities: Looking for a highly motivated and skilled individual to work as a full-time pre-doctoral research associate for a period of 3 months with an option to renew for up to 9 additional months based on performance and funding availability. The research associate will be based at Duke University in Durham, NC and work in close collaboration with Professor and his coauthors on a number of projects related to (1) economic-demographic-epidemiological models of long-term health outcomes in Kazakhstan related to above-ground nuclear tests and (2) the sudden collectivization of northern Kazakhstan’s nomadic population under Stalin. Candidates with prior research experience are strongly preferred, especially those with experience in Stata, R, Python or Matlab.
