General Information

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship position under the supervision of Dr. Laura Glynn, Ph.D., on a new California state-funded research study on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) in Orange County. This study is a collaboration between University of California Irvine, Children’s Hospital Orange County (CHOC), and Chapman University. (Funding announcement: https://opr.ca.gov/ciapm/activity/research/aces/awardees.html) This position is available July 1, 2021, although the start date is flexible. The position will be located at Chapman University.

Adverse early-life experiences (ACEs) are drivers of worse physical and mental health outcomes and disparities. The overall goals of this project are to better understand how ACEs impact development and study a novel way of identifying early who may be at risk for ACEs-conferred health problems, in order to inform effective interventions. We will be screening a large, diverse cohort of children for previously established ACEs in addition to a novel ACE— unpredictability in early life— to understand their unique and cumulative impact on neurodevelopment. Additionally, using intra-individual methylomics, we will identify predictive epigenetic profiles of children impacted by ACEs. This project draws on interdisciplinary expertise in neuroscience, emotional health, health disparities, community engagement, epigenetics, big data, and data-base design and sharing.
