Position Summary:

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Stern College for Women of Yeshiva University, a 4-year liberal arts women's college located in mid-Manhattan, New York City, invites applications for a tenure-track appointment, at the rank of Assistant Professor starting August 2022. An individual is sought with research expertise in Biochemistry to teach undergraduate courses in Biochemistry and Introduction to Chemistry and develop a research program in the field of biochemistry.

Position Responsibilities:

  • The teaching load as an assistant professor is 6 credit hours per semester (two courses typically)
  • Successful candidates will be expected to develop anexperimentalresearch program focusing on biochemistry and chemical biology. Potential areas include, but are not limited to bioorganic chemistry, enzymes and proteins, nucleic acids, antibiotics, and carbohydrates.
  • Develop a vibrant on-campus research program that is attractive to extramural funding agencies and is suitable for undergraduate student research. The research program must be implemented within the context of existing research and instrumentation.
  • Advise and mentor students, demonstrate excellence in teaching, participate in departmental and university activities, and exhibit community service.


    Experience & Educational Background:


  • A Ph.D. in Biochemistry and/or related area in chemical or biomedical sciences
  • Postdoctoral experience with a record of scholarly achievement required

    Skills & Competencies:

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching
  • Research expertise in biochemistry/chemical biology (as specified above) and ability to establish a robust research program
