The Department of Psychology at Occidental College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Developmental Psychology at the level of Assistant Professor or advanced Assistant Professor (eligible for early tenure), with a focus on social development or developmental psychopathology. We hope to find someone with specific scholarly interests related to race, ethnicity, gender, age, or economic disadvantage.

Previous teaching experience is required and postdoctoral research is desirable. The successful applicant will be expected to develop an independent, externally-fundable program of research that involves undergraduate researchers. The successful applicant should also be committed to undergraduate student development and original empirical research. Occidental College is a nationally-ranked small liberal arts institution situated in Los Angeles. Occidental is located in the culturally-rich neighborhoods of Eagle Rock and Highland Park. Applicants should submit the following: (1) a cover letter detailing your interest in teaching in a liberal arts environment; (2) a statement of teaching philosophy that includes a discussion of your demonstrated commitment to, past evidence of, and future plans for creating equitable opportunities for learning and mentoring especially for underrepresented students (include teaching evaluations or other evidence of effective teaching and mentoring if available); (3) a statement of research interests and experience, including how students will participate in or benefit from your research; (4) a curriculum vitae; and (5) three confidential letters of recommendation (request writers to send separately). Electronic application materials should be addressed to Dr. Andrew Shtulman, Chair, Psychology Search, and sent by email to devpsychsearch@oxy.edu. All application materials must be submitted by October 1, 2021.
