Job description:

For the Quantum Information Research Center at Yokohama National University (YNU), we are currently recruiting 2 assistant professors.

You will become part of Kosaka Laboratory and will work on the Moonshot R&D project “Development of quantum interfaces for building quantum computer networks”, under lead of the project manager Hideo Kosaka. In this project we will develop a quantum interface in which a quantum memory made of a color center such as an NV center in diamond is combined with an optomechanical cavity made of diamond-based photonic/phononic crystals and piezo-microwave resonators, in order to connect the superconducting qubit and the communication photon, towards realization of a large-scale superconducting quantum computer network by 2050. Aside from this project you will also be assigned some responsibilities for the Quantum Information Research Center and related projects.

Your profile:

-        You have a doctoral degree or expect to obtain it before employment.

-        You are active in international joint research.

-        You have sufficient experience in experimental research on either nanotechnology, optical properties, quantum optics, quantum electronics, magnetic resonance or others.

-        You are fluent in English and can express yourself well during presentations, communicate efficiently during international joint research and are able to write scientific articles in English.

Our university:

At YNU, 600 researchers conduct research in various fields and create and apply knowledge as an “international focal point of practical scholarship” that can contribute to the welfare of people in Japan and beyond, as well as to the sustainable development of society.
In addition to individual research, to promote collaborative research between researchers at YNU and at other institutions inside and outside Japan, 8 units have been formed at the Institute of Advanced Sciences and 24 research projects have been recognized by the Research Initiative and Promotion Organization as YNU Research Centers. Through this framework, focus is being placed on research in fields with high societal demand, academic fields, fields that are highly ranked socially or academically, and pioneering fields.

YNU’s green campus creates a park-like atmosphere, and so it is an excellent environment for studying and researching.

Furthermore, for international researchers we have facilities which will support your stay in Japan such as international residences affiliated with our university.

Contract terms:

-        Annual salary system according to the university regulation of Yokohama National University.

-        Full time position (38 hours and 45 minutes/week.)

-        You will start out with a 6-month trial, after the trial the contract can be renewed yearly depending on work performance. The maximum limit is November 30, 2025. You will be notified at least 30 days before the end of the term whether the employment contract will be renewed.
