Applications are invited for a post-doctoral researcher to collaborate on natural disaster risk modeling and civil infrastructure systems. The successful applicant will have opportunities to work on two different National Science Foundation projects. The projects address earthquake resilience modeling for water and electric power systems, and developing a computational framework to provide decision support for regional hurricane risk policy-making. The balance between the projects can be determined to meet the candidate’s interests and expertise. The researcher will join an interdisciplinary team of civil engineers, social scientists, and physical scientists as we take innovative approaches to pressing societal problems.

The candidate should have a strong background in mathematical modeling. Interest and background related to earthquakes or hurricanes is a plus. In addition, strong oral and written English communication skills and an ability to work independently are desirable.

Competitive salary and benefits commensurate with qualifications/experience.

Applications should be submitted electronically to Prof. Rachel Davidson, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Delaware, rdavidso@udel.edu, and should include a CV and a cover letter summarizing relevant background and interests, date of availability, and a list of 3 references with their email addresses.

The University is conveniently located an hour from Philadelphia and Baltimore, and within 2.5 hours of Washington, DC, New York, and numerous beaches. The successful candidate may work remotely in the U.S.
