The Department of African-American and African Studies and the Department of History at The Ohio State University invite applications for a position in the history of African migration to North America. The Departments seek a scholar at the rank of assistant or early associate professor, whose research expertise examines post-1965 African migration to North America. We encourage applications from candidates with a wide range of approaches to this topic, including approaches that center the perspective of migrant communities and cultures, global history, Black/Africana Studies, African history, North American history, gender and sexuality studies, economic history, or histories of race or religion. One area of particular interest is the history of migration from the Horn of Africa region and the corresponding North America-based diaspora communities. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a research profile in the form of publications and grants, as well as engagement in community-oriented initiatives commensurate with their academic rank.

The ideal candidate will be expected to teach at all levels of the undergraduate and graduate curriculums. The ability to teach the history of the Atlantic Slave Trade and the history of migration to the US, along with courses in their area of specialty, is desirable. An ability to integrate community work with African diaspora communities in central Ohio, such as the Somali community, in teaching and research practices is also desirable. In addition, the candidate is expected to actively contribute to the intellectual life and research profile of the Department of African-American and African Studies as well as the Department of History.

Qualifications: Candidates are expected to hold a PhD in Africana/Black Studies, History or a related field.
