The Department of History at The
Ohio State University invites applications for the Seth Andre Myers Professorship
in Global Military History. The Department seeks a scholar at the rank of
tenure-track Assistant Professor, whose research expertise extends beyond
Europe and North America. We are particularly interested in candidates who
consider the impact of conflicts on societies in ways that include, but are not
limited to: the circulation and interaction of people and practices, the
development and transformation of networks of trade and knowledge, the transformation
of material culture, and the propagation of diseases beyond national borders.
The department will welcome applications from candidates who examine the
intersection of military history, broadly defined, with the department’s established
thematic constellations, which include, but are not limited to: Comparative Empires;
Race, Ethnicity, and Nation; Environment, Health, Technology, and Science; Women’s,
Gender, and Sexuality History. This position is open to those studying both pre-modern
and modern history. The candidate must possess a demonstrated ability to use sources
in relevant languages and provide evidence of excellence in teaching. The candidate
would teach history survey courses and thematic courses in military history at
the undergraduate level, as well as undergraduate and graduate seminars in
his/her/their specialty. In addition to teaching, the candidate would be
expected to actively contribute to the intellectual life and research profile
of a program with a long tradition in military history, as well as to promote the
ongoing globalization of the field. Qualifications: The
appointment will begin on August 15, 2022. The candidate must possess a Ph.D. by
the time of appointment. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification
of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies,
