Biomedical Engineering Associate in Research

We are seeking exceptional candidates for a full-time position as an Associate in Research to help develop a point-of-care diagnostic platform for breast cancer detection. The research associate will also contribute towards other projects involving biointerface science and surface chemistry, and drug monitoring.

The Chilkoti Laboratory at Duke University is a multidisciplinary group that develops low-cost, point-of-care diagnostics. As a member of this research group, you will be expected to:

•Confer with others to review work assignments, develop plans for experiments, and make modifications to existing procedures and techniques as required for different studies.

•Perform a variety of complex technical duties involving state-of-the art machinery and software to conduct laboratory experiments, obtain and analyze data, and present experimental results.

•Review laboratory methods, manuals, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments.

•Review the work of laboratory personnel and assist in training new personnel.

A Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field is required. We will prioritize applicants who also have the following:

•A successful history of handling projects with multiple moving parts.

•Experience in a “wet lab” (e.g. familiarity with pipets, centrifuges, freeze/thaw cycles, dangerous chemical/biological substances and appropriate safety precautions, etc.)

•A willingness to learn on the job, and the ability to do so quickly.

•A history of working well with others.
