The Department of Spanish and Portuguese (SPPO) seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish starting on August 15, 2022. We seek applicants with specializations in Contemporary 20th and/or 21st Iberian Literary and Cultural Studies. Special consideration will be given to candidates with significant training and a research agenda in Post-Franco Film or Media studies, including but not limited to, television; graphic novels; and comics of Spain. We welcome applicants whose work explores, for example, issues of gender and race; cultural connections and crossings between Africa, the Maghrib and Spain; domestic and Global Hispanophone migrations/immigrations; transnational and diaspora studies. A promising scholarly research agenda is essential. Experience or interest in collaborating with multidisciplinary programs will enhance an applicant's portfolio.

Faculty in SPPO have the opportunity to contribute to the University’s strong interdisciplinarity and collaborate with the Humanities Collaboratory, the Center for Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, the Wexner Center for the Arts, the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum, and the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design

Qualifications:

Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English is required. Completion of Ph. D. is required prior to August 15, 2022. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.
