CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRIST CLINICIAN EDUCATOR FACULTY LINE PEDIATRIC ONCOLOGY & EPILEPSY DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES STANFORD UNIVERSITY

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine is seeking a full-time physician faculty member in the Clinician Educator Line to conduct clinical care and teaching in the Divisions of Pediatric Oncology and Pediatric Epilepsy at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford (LPCH). This is an outpatient role with time divided equally between the two services. The position will be based at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Rank will be commensurate with experience and expertise.

The equivalent of 50% of the candidate’s time will be in the Division of Pediatric Oncology with a potential for a leadership role in the future. It is expected that there will be considerable expansion in this program over the next few years with the hiring of additional psychologists, a pediatric neuropsychologist, and social workers to expand the nature of psychological services provided at LPCH. The candidate will provide psychiatric evaluations for newly diagnosed patients in oncology and provide psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacological treatment for patients with a wide range of ecological conditions, including patients in the pediatric stem cell transplant program.

The equivalent of 50% of the candidate’s time will be in the Pediatric Epilepsy Clinic and will join a team of experts that include pediatric epileptologists, neurosurgeons, registered EEG technologists, neuroradiologists, neuropsychologist and dietitians that all are experts in the care of children with epilepsy. Responsibilities in this program will include providing psychiatric consultation and treatment to youth with epilepsy who are experiencing psychiatric disorders.

Although much of the work will be in the outpatient setting, the candidate will also help with liaison between the inpatient pediatric psychiatry consultation-liaison service at LPCH. There will be an opportunity to participate in teaching and supervisory activities and to engage in collaborative research projects.

Applicants should have experience in evaluating and treating both children and adolescents with a broad spectrum of presenting problems. Expertise in pediatric consultation liaison psychiatry is preferred. The successful candidate will be offered opportunities for advanced training in pediatric hypnosis to supplement their clinical work.
