High Energy Theory postdoc positions at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Sciences.

The Kavli Institute for Theoretical Sciences (KITS) in Beijing sincerely invites applications KITS postdoc fellow positions in the high energy theory group, starting in September 2022. The current faculty members of the high energy theory group at KITS include: Cheng Peng, Ya-wen Sun, Huajia Wang, Xinan Zhou, and Masahiro Nozaki (incoming spring 2022).

The KITS is a fast-growing institute affiliated with the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS). It focuses on promoting high quality research and international cooperation in theoretical sciences. Located in close proximity to institutes such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, and the Institute for Theoretical Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (ITP-CAS), it is part of a very dynamic academic community.

The appointment is for two years, extendable for an additional year. Successful candidates will be provided with: 1. competitive annual salary: 300,000 CNY (~ 48K USD) or higher, depending on qualifications; 2. generous travel grant; 3. housing benefit: 6000 CNY (~ 960 USD) /month housing compensation; 4. strong administrative support (especially for international members of the group).

KITS nurtures a young and dynamical academic environment. KITS postdoc fellows are encouraged to work with any member(s) of the group, as well as to work independently on topics broadly aligned with the group’s interests. Current interests of the group include: AdS/CFT correspondence and applications, quantum gravity, quantum entanglement and quantum chaos, quantum field theory, conformal bootstrap, mathematical physics. In addition, they are also strongly encouraged to interact and collaborate with other groups at KITS, including the condensed matter theory group, and a cold-atom theory group. Applicants should have a PhD degree or equivalent in theoretical physics, completed or expected by 2022. Please submit a cover letter, a CV, a publication list, a research statement, and arrange three recommendation letters to be sent via academicjobsonline.

Applications received prior to Dec 20 will be guaranteed full considerations. Applications received after the deadline may also be considered until the positions are filled.

Note: Exceptional early-career applicants (within 3 years since PhD and below the age of 35) also have the opportunity to apply for a highly competitive special postdoc program in the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). These programs are of three-year appointments, extendable for another three years. They offer significantly higher salaries and come with the possibility of promoting to tenure-track assistant professor positions after that. Besides, successful candidates can also apply for postdoc research grants from the university, as well as from outside (e.g. NSFC) after joining. KITS strongly encourage potential candidates to apply for these opportunities and will help with the application procedures.
