Chapman University seeks applications for the position of tenure–track Assistant Professor in Computational Cognitive Neuroscience in the newly minted Institute for Interdisciplinary Brain and Behavioral Sciences and the Department of Psychology, in the Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences, beginning August 2022.

Qualifications

Ph.D. from an accredited program in Neuroscience, or a related field; evidence of excellence in research and teaching; competence in quantitative methods of research and experimental design in the cognitive and brain sciences, most especially in human brain electrophysiology are required.

Expertise should be related to the neuroscientific investigation of consciousness and cognition using human brain electrophysiology, especially electro- and magnetoencephalography (M/EEG). Areas of research of interest include, but are not limited to, human consciousness, introspection and metacognition, perception and perceptual decision making, and cognitive functions such as attention and executive functions. Interest in clinical research and altered states of consciousness (e.g., meditation, psychedelics, hypnosis, flow states) would be an asset. The successful candidate would be well-versed in measurement, signal processing and data analysis of M/EEG and physiological signals, Bayesian statistics and computational approaches, including machine learning, natural language processing and neural network modelling, psychophysics and cognitive psychology. The candidate should both demonstrate excellent technical skills, a solid theory-driven cohesive research program in cognitive neuroscience, and a strong commitment to teaching and supervising graduate and undergraduate students.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will develop and maintain a rigorous and productive research program with an emphasis on obtaining extramural funding in the cognitive and computational neurosciences.

The successful candidate will join the newly established Brain Institute, which is housed within the Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences (Brain.Chapman.edu).

The teaching load for this position is two undergraduate courses per semester with a potential to teach in the developing interdisciplinary masters program in brain science.

In addition to graduate and postdoctoral students, the successful candidate will advise undergraduate students and supervise student research projects.

Tenure track faculty are expected to develop and maintain an active research agenda for future tenure consideration and are evaluated on their research/scholarly activity, teaching, and service.
