Associate in Research/Technician

Sommer Laboratory in Duke Biomedical Engineering and Neurobiology

The Sommer Laboratory at Duke University is seeking an Associate in Research to assist with scientific and bioengineering projects.

Responsibilities include:

1) working with laboratory animals, including daily training and care and helping with surgical procedures;

2) assisting with general laboratory organization, including ordering, receipt reporting, and helping to keep the lab in compliance with school, state, and federal regulations;

3) performing histology, including sectioning tissues, conducting immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, mounting tissues, coverslipping slides, and microscopy;

4) helping with other research and hardware/software design projects in alignment with the candidate’s skills and interests.

Applicants should have a BS or higher degree in a biological or engineering discipline, or be currently enrolled in such a degree program. Must have experience working with animals and high motivation to help advance neuroscience research. On the job training will be provided as needed.
