INTRODUCTION 

The University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy invites qualified candidates to apply for a full-time (11-month appointment), non-tenure track position as Assistant Clinical Professor within the Department of Pharmacy Practice, with an anticipated start date of August 2022.

The School of Pharmacy is comprised of the Departments of Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The Department of Pharmacy Practice’s 26 faculty members instruct the School’s approximately 200 undergraduate and 200 professional students and guide them to becoming competent and compassionate health professionals. Department faculty have extensive state and national pharmacy leadership experience including advocating for expanding pharmacist scope of practice. UConn Pharmacy won the 2021 AACP Weaver Award in recognition of excellence in public engagement and caring for the underserved. We are among the top 10 pharmacy practice departments nationally in publications and citations per faculty member. 

All faculty members are expected to be strong teachers and develop a prominent national reputation in the areas of scholarship and/or service.  The non-tenure track pharmacy faculty member in general medicine will be integral in training students about drugs and general internal medicine topics, providing care to individuals with a wide range of diseases, and supporting the Department’s major scholarly and public engagement health initiatives called PRISM (https://pharmacy.uconn.edu/research/prism/) and HOPES (https://pharmacy.uconn.edu/hopes/).

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to scholarship (~20% of time) by producing high quality and impactful publications (as measured through publication number, impact factor, and citations), and research presentations. Honorific awards and extramural funding are additional metrics of excellence that are highly valued but not required in this position. 

The faculty member will teach at the School of Pharmacy, precept students on Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences, and be involved in public engagement, state and national service, and service to the University of Connecticut (approximately ~80% of time). In the area of teaching, the successful candidate will share a deep commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate and professional level, development of innovative courses and mentoring of students.  Successful candidates will also be expected to broaden participation among members of underrepresented groups; demonstrate through their scholarship, teaching, and/or public engagement the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.  The faculty member in general medicine (which encompasses internal medicine) will maintain a successful clinical practice in the field.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate must possess a Pharm.D. degree and be licensed or eligible for pharmacist licensure in the State of Connecticut. They must have completed post-doctoral training (PGY1, PGY2 pharmacy residency, or pharmacy fellowship), and/or hold board certification in pharmacotherapy (BCPS). The candidate will possess excellent written/verbal/ interpersonal skills, demonstrable previous teaching experience, and an ability to be a member of a multifunctional team in a collegial fashion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates who have one or more of the following will be preferred for this position: (1) Board certification in pharmacotherapy (BCPS); (2) completion of a PGY2 in internal medicine or secondarily a PGY2 or fellowship in a related subspecialty (e.g. pulmonology, renal, hepatology, cardiology); (3) four of more years-experience working on internal medicine inpatient floors; (4) experience conducting scholarship that results in presentations and publications; (5) experience on committees with state or national pharmacy organizations.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time (11-month appointment), non-tenure track position as an Assistant Clinical Professor within the Department of Pharmacy Practice with an anticipated start date of August 2022. The successful candidate’s primary academic appointment will be at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT or Backus Hospital in Norwich, CT where they will provide clinical service on internal medicine floors with occasional travel to Storrs, CT for didactic teaching, committee work, or meetings. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
