Dr. Roarke Horstmeyer’s Computational Optics Lab at Duke University, Department of Biomedical Engineering, is looking to hire highly motivated postdoctoral scholars. Postdoctoral positions are open for applicants with a recent PhD in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Physics, Physics or another related discipline, who are interested in working at the intersection of computational optics and imaging, biomedical optics, and machine learning.

The candidate will be expected to perform computational simulations of light scattering, and will also work with current students in the lab to assist with their projects (please see the Computational Optics Lab website). Current projects span the range of gigapixel microscope design, parallelized diffuse correlation spectroscopy, extensions of Fourier ptychographic microscopy, table-top optical experiments, and optimization and machine learning software development. Accordingly, we are seeking candidates from a variety of backgrounds and expertise areas.

The applicant must be detail-oriented, independent, proactive, well-organized, and able to manage multiple and changing priorities as needed to move experiments and the research program forward in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a strong commitment to research and work ethic, and a positive attitude are required for this team-based position.

Minimum Requirements:

•An PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Physics, Physics or a related research field

•Knowledge of simulation methods, optics, image post-processing, optimization, computer vision, machine learning, convolutional neural networks and/or other advanced processing tools

•Experience with programming in MATLAB and Python, as well as machine learning packages such as Pytorch and Tensorflow
