Description:

*** this fellowship has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

The cosmology group at Duke University invites applications for one or more postdoctoral fellows in the area of cosmology (observational and theoretical) and new techniques in statistical and image analysis. Applicants will work primarily with Prof. Michael Troxel. The cosmology group at Duke also includes Professors Dan Scolnic and Chris Walter.

Potential research topics could include cosmology with large-scale structure and weak gravitational lensing; statistical studies of heterogeneous datasets; innovative methods in image analysis for large surveys; studies of astrophysical contributions to cosmological signals; and higher-order summary statistics.

Participation in the Dark Energy Survey (DES), Vera C. Rubin Observatory Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) Dark Energy Science Collaboration (DESC), or Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope collaborations or research programs is encouraged. Applicants with previous experience in weak lensing analysis, image analysis and simulations, statistical methods including Bayesian analysis, or modern large-scale computational methods are especially encouraged to apply.

The position is for two years, renewable for a third year upon mutual agreement. The nominal starting date will be September 1, 2022, but is negotiable based on the applicant's availability. Candidates must have a Ph.D. by the date of appointment in astronomy, physics, or relevant field. Applicants should prepare a current CV and list of publications, a brief statement to supplement the CV that describes research interests, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent.

Applications should be submitted to: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/fellowship/20537

Applications received by January 5 will be guaranteed consideration.
