The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST; see www.oist.jp) is a dynamic new graduate university of science and technology in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. The university is located on 85 hectares of protected forestland overlooking beautiful shoreline and coral reefs. The campus is striking architecturally, and the facilities are outstanding (OIST campus video tour). There are no academic departments, which facilitates multidisciplinary research. Division Function/Position summary: 
The Complex Fluids and Flows Unit (CFF, https://groups.oist.jp/cffu) led by Prof. Marco Rosti at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) is seeking to recruit few Postdoctoral Scholars. The CFF Unit carries research in fluid dynamics making use of direct numerical simulations. Highly motivated candidates are welcome to join our team in order to study one of the following topics: 

  • turbulent multiphase flows; 
  • non-Newtonian fluids; 
  • fluid-structure interaction problems. 

Postdocs are expected to engage in creative, curiosity-driven research, and are encouraged to develop their own independent interests, as well as collaborating with existing group members. 

Report To: Prof. Marco Rosti 

Responsibilities: 

  1. Perform innovative research in the context given above (see position summary). 
  2. Publish the results in high-quality journals. 
  3. Present the results at national and international conferences. 

Qualifications: 
 (Required) 
  1. PhD (awarded or imminent) in a relevant discipline with major in Fluid Mechanics, e.g. mechanical, aeronautical, chemical engineering or physics. 
  2. Experience in numerical simulations of multiphase flows, non-Newtonian fluids, or fluid-structure interaction problems. 
  3. Proficiency in written and spoken English. 

 (Preferred) 
  1. Knowledge of Fortran. 
  2. Experience in High-Performance Computing. 

Starting Date: 
As early as possible 

Term & Working hours: 
Term: Full-time, fixed term appointment for 1 year initially. Contract initially with 3-month probationary period (inclusive). This contract may be renewed up to 3 years. 
Working hours: 9:00-17:30 (Discretionary)
