Position Description:

*** this position has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

The Brown University School of Public Health is currently searching for Assistant, Associate or Full Professor applicants to serve as faculty in our MPH program. The intention of this search is to fill more than one faculty position, these are full-time funded positions on the Teaching Scholar track.

We seek exceptional candidates with a demonstrated commitment to public health education and research or practice, with interest or experience in innovative pedagogical methods including online and asynchronous teaching. We are particularly interested in applicants who can teach research methods (including epidemiology or biostatistics); public health leadership and program evaluation; comparative health care systems and/or health policy; or public health communication.

An appointment will be made at the level of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor on a renewable term basis. These teaching scholars will support a new online MPH (Fall 2022) as well as our traditional residential MPH program through coursework and student mentorship. They also will have the opportunity to be involved with other Department graduate programs. An interest in scholarship related to public health education is welcomed. It is not expected that the prospective candidate achieve independence as an investigator or maintain a portfolio of extramural funding.

Candidates must show evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills and engagement with novel teaching methods. The Brown University School of Public Health teaches a growing number of students at both the undergraduate and the PhD levels, and candidates may become involved with instruction at these levels if appropriate. The School is committed to pursuing the goals of Brown University Pathways to Diversity and Inclusion initiative. An important component of a candidate’s experience is dedication to supporting and leading inclusion and diversity efforts.

Candidates for Assistant Professor should have evidence of having served as a teaching assistant or other pedagogical experience such as undergraduate mentorship. Experience in multidisciplinary educational programs, particularly online teaching, is preferred. Scholarship in pedagogy will be viewed favorably.

Candidates for Associate or Full Professor should have a strong record as a teaching scholar with exceptional skills as an educator and a demonstration of a major teaching role in a graduate program or within a department. This may include primary leadership of a required course or substantial elective course offered annually, or supervision of a Master’s degree program; leadership experience that incorporates online, innovative coursework is strongly preferred, as is national engagement with public health pedagogy. A strong track record of scholarship or practice of public health will be viewed favorably.

The School of Public Health and the broader University offer opportunities for substantial collaboration with world class researchers and educators in the constituent disciplines of public health as well as in a broad range of related domain areas including medicine, education, sociology, and engineering. We provide extensive support for the design and implementation of residential and online educational courses and programs.

The School is strongly committed to goals and principles of the Brown University Pathways to Diversity and Inclusion initiative (https://diap.brown.edu/plans-reports). Brown University is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic global community; as an EEO/AA employer, Brown considers applicants for employment without regard to, and does not discriminate on the basis of, race, color, sex, age, national or ethnic origin, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or any other characteristic protected under applicable law.

Review of applications will begin on January 5, 2022. Full consideration will be given to all applications received by that date. Applications received after the priority deadline may be reviewed until the position is filled or the search is closed. Please apply online at [http://apply.interfolio.com/98891].
