Post Doctoral Associate

The Duke Initiative for Science & Society is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative postdoctoral scholar to join a rapidly growing team of scholars and professionals leading scholarship and new curriculum on the ethics and policy of emerging science and technology.

The initial appointment will be for a 2-year term, with an opportunity for renewal up to 5 years.

This post-doctoral fellow will undertake substantial scholarship during their fellowship, with the intention of publishing the results of the bioethics research. • Conduct bioethics-relevant research, including identification of research questions, performance of literature reviews, determination of appropriate methods, gathering relevant data, analysis of findings, write-up of results, and dissemination of knowledge. • Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals, the conducting of grant-related activities and research, and the evaluation and reporting of grant activities and outcomes. • Help supervise students involved in bioethics research.

The postdoctoral fellow will teach 1-2 courses for the Master’s in Bioethics & Science Policy program including Research Law and Bioethics (Fall). The postdoctoral fellow will assist with mentoring and overseeing practicum placements of Master’s students and participate in Science Policy engagement activities (such as panel discussions, symposia, etc.) for Science & Society.

The fellow will be encouraged to take advantage of other training and learning opportunities within the Duke Initiative for Science & Society and the Duke University community. We hope that this experience will prepare the fellow for an independent research career in bioethics, science policy, and/or legal academia.

Preferred Qualifications - Prior interest/experience in transdisciplinary collaboration - Two-year commitment (with opportunities to extend as mutually desired)
