Job Duties

The candidate will perform research in lipid metabolism and stress response associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and hyperlipidemia. Both in vitro (cell culture) and in vivo (mouse) models are used to investigate the molecular and cellular basis of regulation of energy metabolism or unfolded protein response in the liver or digestion tracks. Molecular and cellular approaches, pharmaceutical tools, and engineered animal models will be utilized to address the questions and hypotheses regarding the roles and mechanism by which circadian-regulated endoplasmic reticulum stress sensors modulate lipid and glucose metabolism in animal models of metabolic syndrome. The candidate will design research experiments, perform experiments, and interpret the results. The candidate will also write research papers and apply for new research grants as principal investigator from research funding agencies such as the NIH, American Heart Association, and American Diabetes Association.

The job duties will include the following: 1) Perform molecular and cellular, biochemical, and metabolic research experiments to study functions and mechanisms of cell stress responses in hyperlipidemia, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and diabetes; 2) breed genetically-engineered animal models and perform animal experiments; 3) apply for external research grant support; 4) supervise research assistants, research associates, or undergraduate students in the lab; and 5) Write research manuscripts and progress reports to funding agencies.

Qualifications

* Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology or related field.

* Over 15 years of research experience after Ph.D. training.

* Multiple original research articles as first author published in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.

* Track record of receiving research funding as principal investigator.
