Position Description: Our theory group at the Laboratory for Physical Sciences (LPS), University of Maryland-College Park, seeks talented and motivated postdoctoral researchers to pursue studies in quantum information science and condensed-matter physics. Candidates should have demonstrated expertise in solid-state quantum computing (e.g. superconducting qubits, spins in semiconductors, etc.), quantum information science, many-body condensed matter physics, simulation of quantum systems, or related subjects.

Currently, our group is vigorously pursuing an investigation into superconducting qubits including fluxonium. However, our postdocs are encouraged to exhibit entrepreneurial initiative in identifying and executing research projects. There are opportunities to collaborate within LPS's multifarious team of experimentalists and theorists studying various aspects of quantum computing and quantum information science, with world-class efforts in superconducting qubits, semiconductor-based qubits, materials science for quantum computing (molecular beam epitaxy), device modeling, and other subfields. There are also opportunities to collaborate with researchers at the University of Maryland Physics Department, the Joint Quantum Institute (JQI), and the Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science (QuICS). Minimum Qualifications: • Ph.D. in physics or relevant discipline. • Demonstrated experience in conducting original scientific research through peer reviewed publications. • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Desired Qualifications: • Experience in theory of superconducting quantum circuits. • Familiarity with scientific computing, such as C++, Python, or MATLAB.

Application Materials Required: Qualified applicants should submit the following to the LQC at lqc@lps.gov: • CV • List of publications • Contact information for at least two references.

The University of Maryland is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer and particularly welcomes applications from women and members of minority groups. Prospective and/or new employees will be required to adhere with UMD’s vaccination policy.
