Duke University Adjunct Instructor Positions Master of International Development Policy (MIDP) Program Overview: Duke Center for International Development/ MIDP Program The Duke Center for International Development (DCID), a unit within Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy, advances international development policy and practice through interdisciplinary approaches to post-graduate education, mid-career training, international advising and research. Its faculty and staff continuously strive to create programs that meet the specific needs of each client and student. At DCID, faculty, staff, and students are driven by a shared vision: development that promotes peace and prosperity for all people. DCID offers a Master of International Development Policy (MIDP) graduate degree; intensive international Executive Education programs for senior development managers; and short- and long-term advising in public finance and development management. DCID also hosts one of six centers worldwide - the Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center and maintains close collaborations with the World Bank, USAID and other international and bilateral agencies as well as with consulting firms, foundations, universities, NGOs, and national governments. The MIDP targets globally diverse and qualified mid-career professionals from the public sector, civil society and those interested in changing careers. As mentioned, the program strives to enhance the knowledge and skills of mid-career professionals primarily from low-income and middle-income countries. The MIDP also educates those from high-income countries who plan to dedicate their lives to sustainable international development that focuses on peace and prosperity for all. 90% - 95% of MIDP’s student population is international students. Students have at least 5 years of professional, development-related experience. The average number of years of work experience is 13. Today, DCID is represented around the world by an alumni base of over 6,000 individuals from more than 130 countries. DCID’s teaching, advising and training initiatives are contributing in a real and positive way to sustainable development in countries around the world. Adjunct Instructor Position in International Development Finance The Duke Center for International Development is seeking applicants for an adjunct instructor position to teach a seminar on International Development Finance in the Master of International Development Policy (MIDP) Program. The course should be taught at a level suitable for early career students (e.g. recent returned Peace Corps Volunteers) and mid-career professionals with some experience in the topic. These non-regular-rank, non-tenure-track positions are intended to bring qualified practitioners to the MIDP classroom to provide students with knowledge about practical applications of development policy and to build students’ skills in applying knowledge to real-world circumstances. Candidates must have a post-baccalaureate degree or experience/expertise commensurate with an advanced degree. Specifically, candidates should have experience in the development world and be able to teach graduate courses related to international development. Preferred candidates will have university teaching experience, a strong commitment to working with students in the classroom and on projects, and high personal motivation and responsibility toward maintaining the integrity of the learning environment and process.
