Visiting Assistant Professor

The Department of Philosophy in the College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor for a one year appointment for AY 2022-2023 with research interests in the area of Feminist Philosophy, Philosophy of Law and legal reasoning, Social Epistemology, Philosophy of Mind (esp. The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence or Applied Ethics (esp. Bioethics). The department is particularly interested in candidates whose work in one of these fields is done from a feminist perspective or the perspective of a underrepresented population. We seek outstanding applicants with a demonstrated track record of excellence in teaching. The teaching load is three course (3) per semester. Successful candidates are expected to actively participate in the Department's teaching at the undergraduate levels, and mentor undergraduate students. Evidence of interest and success in mentoring underrepresented minority students is highly desired.

The Department of Philosophy currently consists of seven faculty members, conducting pure and applied research with specializations in Africana Philosophy, Philosophy of Race, Philosophy of Law, and Pragmatism. It offers a BA degree in Philosophy and is a leading unit in the Bioethics Interdisciplinary major. In collaboration with the Howard University Law School, the Department also offers a 3+3 BA-JD program.
Required Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate in Philosophy from an accredited institution;
• Record of scholarship, teaching, and professional service commensurate with the rank of
assistant professor;
• Effective communication and organizational skills; and
