The Department of Biology at Boston University invites applications for Postdoctoral Associate/Lecturer appointments starting September 1, 2022. These positions are designed for recent Ph.D. recipients planning to pursue academic positions that emphasize teaching as well as research, such as faculty positions at primarily undergraduate institutions. Initial appointments are for one year, and typically renewed for 1-2 additional years based on satisfactory performance. Responsibilities are divided between teaching and research. For the instructional component, the candidate will lead discussion sections and/or laboratories of undergraduate biology courses, as well as develop and teach an undergraduate course in their area of expertise during the second year of their appointment. Candidates are expected to participate in Boston University’s pedagogical instructional seminars and programs, such as those provided by the Center for Teaching and Learning. Candidates will also have opportunities to help faculty in the department implement innovative, evidence-based teaching methodologies in their courses. Research will be conducted in the laboratory of a faculty member in the department, with summers devoted primarily to research activities. Qualifications:
  • Early-career Ph.D. with degree in biology or related biomedical science; 
  • interest and/or experience in teaching at the undergraduate level; 
  • qualifications to teach introductory biology, human/mammalian physiology, and/or biochemistry laboratories are particularly desirable, but not required; 
  • and a research plan compatible with one or more of the faculty labs in BU’s Department of Biology.
