Position SummaryThe University of Oregon’s Cinema Studies Department invites applications for a Career Instructor in Production (Fiction). We seek enthusiastic candidates with experience in narrative fiction across various formats including film, TV and/or emerging forms. We are especially interested in a colleague that is excited to train undergraduates as creative practitioners (via intro and advanced production courses), support students’ professional development (via an internship program), and contribute to the creative and intellectual community of the department.Instruction includes designing courses and accompanying syllabi to teach a production curriculum that includes, but is not limited to: screenwriting, introduction to production, directing for the camera, production design, and producing. The job requires the instructor to utilize their professional and creative experience to give students insight into best practices within the industry. Courses may include Narrative Production I & II, Screenwriting I, Cinema Careers, Internship courses and others in their areas of expertise. The Instructor will need to work closely with students in analyzing conventions in various production environments (i.e. screenwriting, music, video and sound), mentor students in the production and constructive criticism/feedback processes, challenge students to evaluate their own work and that of their peers, and give students the opportunity to work together in production groups. Additional expectations include building/maintaining professional contacts for networking and professionalization purposes related to instruction and internship development/coordination. Minimum Requirements• MFA, or master's degree in related field;OR• Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of professional production experience and/or strong pedagogical training.Preferred Qualifications• Experience across all phases of production (from screenwriting to post-production).• Relevant professional experience and/or established industry network to support internship development.Special Instructions to ApplicantsAlong with your online application, please submit the following:1.
